Engineered Flooring Solutions for Manufacturing & Warehousing

Extreme Durability for Summit County’s Toughest Environments

At Unlimited Designs Flooring & Epoxy of Akron, we understand that in an industrial setting, the floor is a critical piece of equipment. It must withstand forklifts, chemical spills, heavy machinery, and 24/7 operations. When your floor fails, production stops.
We provide high-performance Industrial Epoxy Floor Coating systems designed specifically for the rigorous demands of Akron’s manufacturing sector. From the rubber and polymer plants in South Akron to the logistics hubs in Twinsburg and Macedonia, our floors are engineered to meet safety regulations, resist corrosion, and last for decades under extreme abuse.

Why Industrial Epoxy is Essential for Your Facility

Beyond Aesthetics: Safety, Compliance, and ROI

A bare concrete slab is a liability. It dusts, cracks, and absorbs hazardous fluids. Our industrial coatings transform that liability into an asset.
1. Forklift & Heavy Load Resistance: Our high-build, 100% solids epoxy systems have compressive strengths exceeding 10,000 PSI. They can handle the point-load of fully loaded forklifts, pallet jacks, and heavy machinery without cracking or delaminating.
2. Chemical & Acid Resistance: For facilities in Barberton and Norton dealing with hydraulic fluids, battery acids, solvents, or skydrol, we offer specialized Novolac epoxy topcoats. These provide a chemical-resistant shield that prevents hazardous materials from leaching into the soil or degrading the concrete.
3. OSHA & 5S Safety Compliance: Safety is non-negotiable. We integrate permanent safety striping directly into the floor system.
  • Yellow: Aisle ways and traffic lanes.
  • Red: Fire equipment and electrical panel clearance.
  • Green: First aid and safety stations.
  • Blue: Work-in-progress or raw material zones.

4. Dust & Contamination Control: In precision manufacturing or food processing, concrete dust is a contaminant. Our seamless, non-porous coatings eliminate dusting completely, protecting sensitive electronics and meeting FDA/USDA sanitation standards.

Our Industrial Flooring Systems

Tailored to Your Specific Operational Needs

We don’t just "paint" floors. We engineer a system based on your facility's specific stressors.

Epoxy Mortar Systems (The "Tank" of Floors)

For severely damaged floors in older Akron factories, we apply a trowel-down epoxy mortar. This restores the surface, filling deep pits and cracks, and creating an ultra-thick, impact-resistant layer that is stronger than the original concrete.

Electro-Static Dissipative (ESD) Flooring

For electronics manufacturing in Hudson or Fairlawn, static electricity can destroy components. Our ESD epoxy systems safely ground static charges, protecting your inventory and equipment.

Thermal Shock Resistant Urethane Concrete

For food and beverage plants in Cuyahoga Falls that use hot steam cleaning or walk-in freezers, standard epoxy can crack. We install Urethane Cement systems that expand and contract with the concrete, resisting thermal shock up to 250°F.

High-Traffic Warehouse Coatings

For logistics centers, we use light-reflective, high-gloss coatings that improve visibility and reduce lighting costs, combined with abrasion-resistant Urethane topcoats to prevent scratches from constant pallet movement.

The Installation: Minimizing Downtime

We Work Around Your Production Schedule

We know that every hour of downtime costs you money. Unlimited Designs Flooring & Epoxy offers flexible scheduling to keep your Akron facility running.
  • Holiday & Weekend Installs: We can start Friday evening and have you back online Monday morning.
  • Rapid-Cure Polyaspartics: We use fast-curing coatings that allow for forklift traffic in as little as 24 hours.
  • Dust-Free Prep: Our industrial shot-blasters and diamond grinders are hooked up to massive HEPA dust collectors, ensuring your machinery and inventory remain clean during the prep phase.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Industrial Flooring Specifics

How do we fix a floor that is already oil-soaked?
Oil is the enemy of adhesion. We use specialized oil-tolerant primers and aggressive shot-blasting to remove the contaminated layer of concrete. In extreme cases, we use oil-stop primers that bond even to oil-saturated slabs.
Can you coat over old epoxy?
Yes, provided the old coating is still well-bonded. We will mechanically abrade (sand/grind) the existing surface to create a scratch pattern for the new topcoat to stick to. If the old floor is peeling, we must remove it completely.
Is the floor slippery?
High-gloss epoxy can be slick. For industrial settings, we almost always add a non-slip aggregate (aluminum oxide) to the topcoat. We can adjust the "grit" level—heavier for wash bays, lighter for assembly areas.
How thick is the system?
Standard industrial coatings are 20-30 mils thick. Epoxy mortar systems can be 1/8" to 1/4" thick depending on the severity of the concrete damage.

Why Akron Homeowners and Businesses Trust Flake Epoxy Flooring

Local Landmarks, Neighborhoods, and the Akron Advantage

Akron, Ohio is a city with a rich industrial legacy, diverse neighborhoods, and iconic destinations like the Akron Art Museum, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, and the Akron Zoo. Whether your property is nestled near the historic Highland Square, bustling downtown, or along the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park, maintaining clean, attractive, and durable floors is essential—especially with Northeast Ohio’s changing seasons.

Akron’s Unique Climate and Flooring Challenges

Akron’s weather is known for its humid summers, snowy winters, and frequent freeze-thaw cycles. This leads to:
  • Concrete sweating or dampness, especially in basements and garages
  • Salt and de-icing chemicals tracked in from winter roads, causing pitting or staining
  • Expansion and contraction in older concrete slabs, leading to cracks and surface wear
Flake epoxy flooring is specifically designed to address these local challenges. Its seamless, non-porous surface prevents moisture intrusion, resists the corrosive effects of road salt, and bridges minor imperfections in aging concrete. The durable topcoat stands up to heavy equipment, foot traffic from events at Canal Park, and even the rigors of hosting friends after a day at Summit Metro Parks.

Enhance Your Property Near Akron’s Landmarks

  • Highland Square & West Hill: Older homes benefit from epoxy’s ability to hide existing concrete flaws, adding modern appeal without expensive slab replacement.
  • Downtown Akron & The University of Akron Area: Businesses, restaurants, and campus facilities enjoy easy-to-clean, eye-catching floors that impress customers and reduce maintenance.
  • Portage Lakes & Ellet: Lakefront garages and basements stay dry and protected, even during spring thaws or summer storms.
  • Fairlawn, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls: Suburban homeowners love the customizable flake blends that match their décor and withstand daily family life.

Supporting Akron’s Community with Local Expertise

As an Akron-based business, Unlimited Designs Flooring & Epoxy understands the city’s architecture and construction trends. We’ve completed projects near the Goodyear Theater, in the heart of Firestone Park, and throughout the North Hill and Merriman Valley neighborhoods.
